Horizon 2020: Robo Wunderkind secures €1.75 million in funding
Big and very exciting news at Robo Wunderkind! We are one of 36 selected companies to receive funding via Horizon 2020 - European Union's biggest Research and Innovation program.
We are happy to announce that Robo Wunderkind has received a grant of over €1.75 million from the Accelerator Pilot Project of the European Innovation Council (EIC). Since its introduction in mid-2019, the EIC Accelerator pilot has been providing grant support to Europe’s most innovative companies in different fields, including education. Robo Wunderkind, the EdTech startup with the HQ in Vienna, has developed an intuitive robotics kit that encourages playful learning and introduces children to the world of robotics and coding.
A record number of 4000 start-ups, as well as small and medium-sized enterprises from 16 countries, applied for this pilot project in March 2020. Robo Wunderkind was one of 36 selected companies to receive EIC funding and is considered one of the most promising projects in the EU's Horizon 2020 research and innovation program.
Europe is trailing behind regions such as North America and Asia when it comes to the topic of programming and robotics in pre-school and school curriculum. As a direct result, there is a considerable lack of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) graduates entering the job market. With the Robo Wunderkind robotics kits, children as young as 5 years of age can play, learn, and create with technology at school and at home - developing their STEM competencies, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
"We are proud and very happy to be one of 36 companies to be awarded the European Innovation Council's grant for innovation and research," says Anna Iarotska, Co-founder and CEO of Robo Wunderkind. "The EU's Horizon 2020 program is a perfect fit for our products - we are committed to solving a challenge in education that will directly impact the future of this region. The Horizon 2020 grant will enable us to bring digital learning to a completely new level: we will launch AI-based, personalized learning support, brand new IoT features, and a community platform for sharing coding ideas. Our goal is to empower children to learn how to build and program their own robots in a playful and creative way.”
